In December 1963, Mario Schifano left his studio in Campo de’ Fiori in Rome to go to New York. He lived at 791 Broadway in Lower Manhattan, where he developed a special relationship with his neighbor, poet Frank O’Hara. Together they made a portfolio of seventeen drawings, that they called Words & Drawings, a dialogue between words and images. This book is a homage to Schifano’s trip to New York and his work created with Frank O’Hara.
More than one hundred photos that Schifano took while in New York, most never previously published, are to be seen in this book.
